Where shall I go, and to whom shall I speak? I have no other place. Your servant has spent his life at your very door. (1) Lord, I ruined my conduct because distress overwhelmed me; but, treasury of compassion, how can matters stand if you act as I have acted? (2) Each day will be a bad day, each day a wretched state, each day suffering and fault, until you look upon me, ornament of Raghu’s line. (3) Sightless, I turned my back upon you; but you are the eye of the universe. None is like you but you yourself, and no other releases the bowed from grief. (4) Lord, I am dependent and poor; you are independent, the Master. I offer myself—how can a shadow make a petition to the one who speaks? (5) Look first at yourself and then at me; only then judge this servant truly. The shelter of Rama’s name is immense: whoever takes it is saved. (6) Rama, the pattern of your conduct continually delights my heart. Grant grace as you please; Tulsi is yours. (7)
