Therefore, Lord, again and again I fall at your door and cry out. When anguish, humility, and lowliness speak, the Lord removes distress. (1) The world-guardians were distraught with grief and trembled in fear of Ravana. What did you hear that made you, compassionate one, feel such concern and assume a human body? (2) Kaushika, the sage’s wife, and Janaka burned in the fire of anxiety. I cannot understand by what spiritual means they were cooled. (3) Boatman, bird, and Shabari were not naturally devoted to the lotus feet; yet, Master, when they came before you, even a bad tree bore good fruit. (4) Sugriva and Vibhishana were consumed by enmity with brothers and grave disgrace. Pleased by what service, Rama, did you make them equal to Bharata? (5) The Son of the Wind became the master and the Lord followed him as servant. By taking his name, Rama respectfully honors everyone. (6) Without knowing Rama’s way, the world exhausts itself and dies. Those like Tulsi who abandon deceit and take refuge cross over. (7)
