तोसों हौं फिरि फिरि हित, प्रिय, पुनीत सत्य बचन कहत। सुनि मन, गुनि, समुझि, क्यों न सुगम सुमग गहत॥ १॥ छोटो बड़ो, खोटो खरो, जग जो जहाँ रहत। अपनो अपनेको भलो कहहु, को न चहत॥ २॥ बिधि लगि लघु कीट अवधि सुख सुखी, दुख दहत। पसु लौं पसुपाल ईस बाँधत छोरत नहत॥ ३॥ बिषय मुद निहार भार सिर काँधे ज्यों बहत। योंही जिय जानि, मानि सठ! तू साँसति सहत॥ ४॥ पायो केहि घृत बिचारु, हरिन-बारि महत। तुलसी तकु ताहि सरन, जाते सब लहत॥ ५॥

Again and again I speak to you words that are beneficial, dear, pure, and true. Mind, hear, reflect, and understand—why do you not take the easy, good road? (1) Small or great, false or true—whoever lives anywhere in the world, tell me, who does not desire his own good? (2) From Brahma down to the smallest worm, all delight in happiness and burn in pain; from beast to Lord Pashupati, the Lord binds, releases, and protects. (3) Look at the joy of sense-objects: it is like carrying a load upon one’s head. Knowing and accepting this in your heart, fool, why do you endure torment? (4) Reflect: who has obtained ghee by churning the vast water of a mirage? Tulsi, look toward the refuge from whom everyone receives all things. (5)
