Rāga Sūho Bilāvala You did not love the lover of Rama. He gave you this body, inaccessible even to immortals—a birth in a noble family and a beautiful body, means to the four goals. Receiving it, the wise attain the supreme station of Shiva or Krishna. Here are Bharatavarsha, the nearby celestial river, a fine place, and good company; yet, coward, the wish-vine of your bad understanding desires to bear poisonous fruit. (1) Even now understand; attend and hear the supreme good. The true benefactor in the world is the one from whom every interest is gained. Self-interest is dear—but from whom does it come? Which Veda proclaims otherwise? Villain, abandon play with the snake and recognize that Lord. Father, mother, teacher, master, one’s own people, wife, son, servant, and friend seem dear through his love; apart from him, you have seen no causeless benefactor. (2) That benefactor is not far away—look, he is within the heart. Abandon deceit and remember him; he immediately shows tenderness. The shade of his lotus hand runs after the devotee as soon as the devotee worships. Lord of the world and life of the living, he arranges every provision for everyone. He gave Hari his Harihood, Brahma his Brahmahood, and Shiva his Shivahood: that very Lord of Janaki is the sweet, joyful, all-auspicious form. (3) The Master is exceedingly great, gracious, straightforward, and good. Though inaccessible even to Shiva’s meditation, he rose to meet the boatman. With tear-filled eyes and a body loosened by affection, he clasped him in his arms. Gods, perfected beings, sages, and poets say none loves love as Raghubira does. He made bird, Shabari, night-roamer, bear, and monkey more honored and greater than himself, then seemed to sink with embarrassment when recalling their service. (4) When you bring into the heart the Master’s nature just described, every anxiety will vanish and the mind will acknowledge Rama’s goodness. One who accepts Raghunatha as good, joins his hands, and bows his head will at once, says Tulsidas, gain the fruit of life and birth. Repeat the Name, bow, recount the hosts of virtues, and hold Rama in your heart; roam the earth with the bee of your mind fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord of the earth. (5)
