राम-से प्रीतमकी प्रीति-रहित जीव जाय जियत। जेहि सुख सुख मानि लेत, सुख सो समुझ कियत॥ १॥ जहँ-जहँ जेहि जोनि जनम महि, पताल, बियत। तहँ-तहँ तू बिषय-सुखहिं, चहत लहत नियत॥ २॥ कत बिमोह लट्यो, फट्यो गगन मगन सियता। तुलसी प्रभु-सुजस गाइ, क्यों न सुधा पियत॥ ३॥

The soul’s life passes away without love for a beloved such as Rama. You accept a thing as happiness—but reflect: how much happiness is it? (1) Wherever and in whatever womb you were born—on earth, in the netherworld, or in the sky—there you invariably desired and obtained sense-pleasure. (2) Why remain wrapped in delusion, absorbed in sewing a sky that has torn? Tulsi, why not sing the Lord’s fair fame and drink nectar? (3)
