हे हरि! यह भ्रमकी अधिकाई। देखत, सुनत, कहत, समुझत संसय-संदेह न जाई॥ १॥ जो जग मृषा ताप-त्रय-अनुभव होइ कहहु केहि लेखे। कहि न जाय मृगबारि सत्य, भ्रम ते दुख होइ बिसेखे॥ २॥ सुभग सेज सोवत सपने, बारिधि बूड़त भय लागै। कोटिहुँ नाव न पार पाव सो, जब लगि आपु न जागै॥ ३॥ अनबिचार रमनीय सदा, संसार भयंकर भारी। सम-संतोष-दया-बिबेक तें, ब्यवहारी सुखकारी॥ ४॥ तुलसिदास सब बिधि प्रपंच जग, जदपि झूठ श्रुति गावै। रघुपति-भगति, संत-संगति बिनु, को भव-त्रास नसावै॥ ५॥
Hari, such is the power of delusion: though one sees, hears, speaks, and understands, uncertainty and doubt do not go. (1) If the world is false, then by what account is the threefold pain experienced? Mirage water cannot be called real, yet delusion about it causes particular suffering. (2) Sleeping on a lovely bed, one dreams of drowning in the ocean and becomes afraid. Even millions of boats cannot carry that person across until he himself awakens. (3) When not examined, worldly existence always appears delightful, though it is immensely terrible; through equanimity, contentment, compassion, and discernment, one’s conduct in it becomes beneficial. (4) Although revelation sings that the world’s whole display is false in every way, Tulsidas asks: without devotion to the Lord of Raghu and the company of saints, who can destroy the terror of becoming?
