जागु, जागु, जीव जड़! जोहै जग-जामिनी। देह-गेह-नेह जानि जैसे घन-दामिनी॥ १॥ सोवत सपनेहुँ सहै संसृति-संताप रे। बूड्यो मृग-बारि खायो जेवरीको साँप रे॥ २॥ कहैं बेद-बुध, तू तो बूझि मनमाहिं रे। दोष-दुख सपनेके जागे ही पै जाहिं रे॥ ३॥ तुलसी जागेते जाय ताप तिहूँ ताय रे। राम-नाम सुचि रुचि सहज सुभाय रे॥ ४॥
Awaken, awaken, dull soul! Look upon the night of the world. Know attachment to body and home to be like lightning among clouds. (1) Even asleep, in dream, you suffer the anguish of transmigration: drowned in mirage-water, bitten by the snake imagined in a rope. (2) The Vedas and the wise tell you—understand it within your mind: the faults and sorrows of a dream depart only upon waking. (3) Tulsi, when one wakes, all three burning torments go; then pure delight in Rama’s name arises naturally, from one’s own being. (4)
