Lord—Janaki’s Lord and Raghu’s Lord is the sun against the darkness of attachment and its kin, youthful-bodied and an abode of radiance; being-consciousness-bliss, mine of the root of joy, repose of the world, Rama who delights. (1) His auspicious beauty is lovely as a fresh blue raincloud; at his waist he wears fine yellow silk. A crown set with jewels and gold adorns his head, shining like a hundred suns. (2) Earrings at his ears, a tilak upon his exceedingly lovely brow, immense crimson lotus eyes; his sidelong glance removes the three worlds’ grief, and he is the royal swan in Shiva’s heart-lake. (3) His nose is lovely, cheeks fair, teeth diamond-bright, lips like bimba fruit and smile sweet; conch-like neck, noble chin and deep speech, true in resolve, he destroys the gods’ terror. (4) A soft forest garland, woven of wondrous fresh flowers and tulsi leaves, shines upon his chest; intoxicated swarms of bees, drawn by its fragrance, fly about singing sweetly aloud. (5) Lovely Shrivatsa, armlets, bracelets and necklace adorn him, and little bells chime richly at his waist. Janaka’s daughter sits upon the throne at his left, a tender golden vine beside a tamala tree. (6) His arms reach his knees; Kodanda adorns the left arm and the right hand holds one arrow. Hosts of sages, gods, Siddhas and Gandharvas, humans, Nagas and many kings bow to him. (7) Sinless, unbroken, all-knowing and Lord of all, he truly grants us blessing on every side. I bow to Shri Rama with Lakshmana, skilled in ending the distress of those who bow. (8) His paired lotus feet are the everlasting abode of bliss, splendid with thunderbolt and other marks. Hanuman made his pure heart their highest temple; grief-removing Rama is forever servant Tulsi’s refuge. (9)
