अति आरत, अति स्वारथी, अति दीन-दुखारी। इनको बिलगु न मानिये, बोलहिं न बिचारी॥ १॥ लोक-रीति देखी सुनी, व्याकुल नर-नारी। अति बरषे अनबरषेहूँ, देहिं दैवहिं गारी॥ २॥ नाकहि आये नाथसों, साँसति भय भारी। कहि आयो, कीबी छमा, निज ओर निहारी॥ ३॥ समै साँकरे सुमिरिये, समरथ हितकारी। सो सब बिधि ऊबर करै, अपराध बिसारी॥ ४॥ बिगरी सेवककी सदा, साहेबहिं सुधारी। तुलसीपर तेरी कृपा, निरुपाधि निरारी॥ ५॥
One who is deeply afflicted, deeply self-concerned, utterly poor and miserable—do not take his words separately to heart, for he speaks without reflection. (1) The world's way is seen and heard: distraught men and women abuse Providence both when rain is excessive and when there is none. (2) Great torment and fear drove me to my last breath before my Lord, and so I said what I did. Forgive it now, looking to your own nature. (3) In a constricted hour one remembers the mighty benefactor; forgetting the offense, he rescues one in every way. (4) It is always the master who repairs the servant's ruin. Your grace upon Tulsi is singular, unconditioned and pure. (5)
