O Goddess, crusher of unbearable faults and sorrows, show compassion. You are the root of the universe, ever favorable to your people, bearer of the trident and the great primordial Maya. (1) Every beautiful limb shines like lightning within a cloud, adorned with divine cloth and splendid ornaments. Your eyes are lovely as a young deer and a khanjan bird, your face the moon; seeing you, ten million Ratis and Maras are ashamed. (2) You are the limit of beauty, happiness and character; you are formidable, Rama and Vama, and you grant understanding and speech. Mother of the six-faced one and Heramba, Mother of the World, wife of Shambhu - victory, victory to Bhavani. (3) You broke Chanda's mighty arms, destroyed Mahisha and Munda and shattered their pride, tearing their bodies apart. Lioness in battle against Shumbha, Nishumbha and the elephant-lord, you drowned hosts of foes in an ocean of wrath. (4) O venerable one inaccessible to scripture and tradition, the thousand-tongued bearer of the earth narrates your virtues. Mother, give me this pledge and rule of love: let Tulsidas be a chataka bird for dark-cloud Rama. (5)
