O God, terrifying in form, Bhairava, fearsome lord of spirits, ghosts and Pramathas, remover of calamity; cat to the mouse of delusion, remover of the fear of worldly existence, boat of deliverance and giver of fearlessness. (1) Your strength is unequalled and your expanse immense; your fair form is stainless, exceedingly white like a mountain. On your head is heaped a graceful crown of tawny matted locks, flashing like a hundred million sheets of lightning. (2) The celestial river shines upon you, supremely purifying, forming a wondrous garland on your crown. A lovely digit of the moon rules your forehead. O bearer of the crescent, Hara, friend of Kubera, I bow to you. (3) Moon, fire and sun are your eyes; you crushed Love, are an abode of virtues and the form of knowledge and realization. Girija is your beloved, the lord of mountains is ever your home, earrings hang at your ears, and the beauty of your face is incomparable. (4) You bear hide, sword and trident; drum, arrow and bow are in your hands; lord of the bull, you ride it and are a treasury of compassion. When gods, demons and the human world burned and were overcome by grief, your tender heart, O unconquered one, made you drink the poison. (5) Ash adorns your body, tiger skin is your garment, and serpents and human skulls form garlands on your breast. You break the spells of Dakinis, Shakinis and beings of sky and earth, and are the mighty enemy of sin. (6) You are Time beyond time, the death of Kali's age, Garuda to serpents and the destroyer of Tripura, performer of tremendous deeds. At the end of all worlds and aeons you dance with ineffable power, the elephants of the quarters held at your trident's point. (7) Poor and scorched by sin and suffering in dense, terrible worldly existence, I wander among the world's wombs and have no other savior. Protect me, O Rudra in Bhairava's form and Rama's form - friend, teacher, father, mother and creator. (8) Pure-minded Sharada, the Vedas, Narada and the foremost celibate sages count your hosts of virtues. O Shesha, Lord of all, seated in the Forest of Bliss, remove the fear of your bowed servant Tulsidas. (9)
