O God, sun against the darkness of delusion; Hara, Rudra, Shankara, refuge and remover of my grief, delight of the worlds. A young moon rests on your brow, your immense eyes are lotuses, and you are the abode of beauty equal to a hundred million Cupids. (1) Your lovely form is white as conch, jasmine, moon and camphor, while your body's brilliance shines like ten million young suns. Ash covers every limb, the Daughter of the Mountain is half your body, and garlands of serpents and human skulls adorn you. (2) Your dense crown of matted hair flashes like lightning and bears the excellent river whose water was purified by Hari's feet. Earrings hang at your ears and poison rests in your throat. I bow to the Avadhuta, root of compassion and being-consciousness-bliss. (3) Trident, arrow, Pinaka and sword are in your hands; like fire with a smoke-banner you burn the forest of enemies, and the bull is your mount. Clad in tiger and elephant hides, mass of knowledge, you are served by perfected beings, gods, sages and humans. (4) Intent on the Tandava dance, sounding the noble damaru like a kettledrum, you seem inauspicious yet are a treasury of auspiciousness. At the end of a great aeon you burn the cosmic sphere; Kailasa is your home and you sit in Kashi. (5) Knower of reality, omniscient Lord of sacrifice, imperishable all-pervader, O destroyer of Tripura, the universe arises from a portion of you. Brahma, Indra, moon, sun, Varuna, Agni, Vasus, Maruts and Yama worship your feet, sovereign over all. (6) Partless, unconditioned, without qualities or stain, Brahman, sole unborn and changeless ground of the path of action; embodiment of all, fierce-formed Shiva, lord of kings and gods, all-pervading Sharva, benefactor of all. (7) Knowledge and dispassion, wealth and dharma, the joy of liberation and beautiful good fortune all arise when you are favorable, O Shiva. Even so, foolish people climb the road of worldly existence and wander through becoming, turned away from the root of your feet. (8) His understanding ruined, exceedingly corrupt, attached to hardship and overcome by sorrow, your servant Tulsidas has come to Shambhu's refuge. O enemy of desire, give him unbroken devotion to Shri Rama's lotus feet, beyond division and maya. (9)
