English Translation

God has come in the sesame offering; the jiva is satiated with sweetness. This auspicious moment has borne fruit; the inner impurity is gone. Sin and merit have both ended; a single holy bath has settled everything. Says Tuka, the tongue has become pure in the celebration honoring Janardana.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

God has come into the sesame offering; the soul is filled with sweetness. This holy time has borne its fruit; the impurity within is gone. Sin and merit are both ended; a single sacred bath has settled it all. Tuka says: in the gathering that honors Janardana, the tongue has become pure.

What it means

Tukaram is celebrating a sacred occasion, marked by the sesame offering and the holy bath, in which God himself is present. In that moment the soul is satisfied through and through, and the inner stain is washed away. He says the single sacred bath ends both sin and merit at once, lifting him past the whole ledger of deeds. And in the festival that honors Janardana, even his speech is made pure.
