English Translation

I have placed all my faith at Your feet. Do not disappoint me now. Your name is sweet to sing and sweet to hear, and Your form is beautiful to behold. My mind has become steady and still. All the snares of desire have been removed. The suffering of birth, old age, and disease has been dispelled, and the joy of love overflows. Says Tuka, this conviction has become firm. Why should I waste more words?.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

I have placed all my trust at your feet. Do not turn cold to me now. Your name is sweet to sing in my heart, sweet to hear in my ears, and your image is beautiful to see with my eyes. My mind has grown steady and still. Every snare of desire has been cut away. The pain of birth, old age, and disease is gone, and the joy of love overflows. Tuka says: this much is settled for me now. Why should I waste more words?

What it means

This is the report of a devotee who has arrived. Tukaram has staked everything on God's feet and asks only that God not now grow indifferent. He describes the senses turned fully to God, singing the Name, hearing it, gazing on the form, until the mind itself comes to rest. The fruit follows: the snares of craving are cut, the threefold suffering of birth, aging, and disease is dispelled, and love spills over. He ends by sealing it as firm conviction, with nothing left worth saying.
