Tukaram Gatha (Marathi Wikisource)

English Translation

Now I will finish everything in one meal and put an end to begging again and again. Make the last morsel sweet, O gracious mother Panduranga. You should not withhold anything now in any way, for the little one has grown up. Says Tuka, stop stalling now; do not let anything remain hidden.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Now let me finish it all in one meal. Let me stop begging again and again. Make the last morsel sweet, O mother. O gracious Panduranga. Do not hold anything back now, in any way. The little one has grown up. Tuka says: stop putting me off now; do not let anything stay hidden from me.

What it means

Tukaram asks for an end to the long round of asking. He has begged again and again, and now he wants one full meal that finishes the hunger for good. He calls Panduranga his mother and asks that the very last morsel be made sweet, the gift held back till now. The child is no longer small, he says, so nothing should be withheld; God has stalled long enough. It is a prayer for the whole of grace given at once, with nothing kept back.
