English Translation

The greatest of all good omens is to hold God's feet within the heart. When there is no separation from Him, what gain could possibly be lacking? Says Tuka, for the servants of Hari, every moment is auspicious, and all directions are blessed.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

The greatest of all good omens is to hold God's feet in the heart. When there is no separation from Him, what gain could be missing? Tuka says: for the servants of Hari, every moment is auspicious, and all directions are blessed.

What it means

Tukaram is overturning the whole business of lucky days and favorable signs. The one true good omen, he says, is to carry God's feet within the heart. Once there is no separation from God, nothing worth gaining can be lacking, so no further sign is needed. For those who serve Hari, the conclusion follows on its own: every moment is the right moment and every direction is blessed, because the auspiciousness is in the union, not in the calendar.
