तरु रसाल एक परम सुहाई तहाँ हनुमन्त कुंभज प्रतिगाई । शंभु उमा नंदीश्वर पाहीं कहेउ गहेउ सो तिन मनमाहीं ॥४॥ एक समय नन्दीं उ रजाई वेद अथर्वण तहाँ यह पाई । सुनेउ सकल जिय भा संतोषा यथा चकोर कुमुद शशि पोषा ॥५॥ ॥ दुर्मिला छन्द ॥ सत संग जटी मति मोह घटी जग प्रीति घटी विधि अंक फटी तप दान लटी जप जोग हटी हट के हटको जग जोर भटी विधि लोक मटी सब कर्म कटी भव की सट की हरि नाम रटी रस रामचरण निपटी सट्टी नच मुक्ति नटी जहाँ भक्ति ठटी ॥१॥ सद कर्म चटी, नंकटी निकटी मटकादि जटी भजु संत डटी जग जानि घटी तनु फाटि कुटी जग बेलि कटी चलु संत बटी विषयानि छूटी जग रीति कटी कटु भेद टुटी रहु संत तटी सब धर्म खटी गुन ज्ञान अटी प्रभु की पटुता सत संगपटी ॥२॥ ॥ हरिगीत छन्द ॥ यम नेम पूजा पाठ जप योगादि क्रम उत्तम घनो मोक्षादि सब नहिं तुलहिं जो पल एक संत संगति बनो जेहि संग पाइ कुबेर मैं भीक्षा न मिल कोटिन गनो तजि सकल कर्मो कर्म गति सतसंग करु परि मम मनो ॥ दोहा ॥ रामचरण सतसंग बिनु, अंग भंग नहि होइ । अंग भंग बिनु कर्म जड़ धरे रहत सब कोइ ॥१॥

There stood one supremely lovely mango tree. Hanumān repeated the teaching there to Kumbhaja; Śambhu told it to Umā in Nandīśvara's presence, and the hearers fixed it in their hearts. At one time Nandī, having received permission, obtained this account there from the Atharva Veda. Hearing it, every heart was contented, as the moon nourishes the cakora and the night-lotus. The durmilā verses unfold through rapid alliteration: when holy company is grasped, deluded understanding diminishes, worldly attachment falls, and destiny's ledger tears. Austerity and giving are plundered, recitation and yoga retreat, obstinacy loses its force, and the world's coercion breaks. Brahmā's realm is erased, all karma is cut, becoming is beaten down, and Hari's Name alone is repeated. Rāmacaraṇa says liberation cannot perform its dance where devotion stands firm. Good works and counterfeit displays are brought close and exposed; worship the saints steadfastly. Know the world to be a mere measure, the body a torn hut; cut the world's vine and walk the saints' path. Sense-objects fall away, worldly convention is cut, cruel distinctions break—remain on the saints' bank. All formal duties become secondary while virtue and knowledge arrive; mastery of the Lord lies in the compact treasury of holy company. In harigīta meter, restraint, observance, worship, recitation, repetition, yoga and every excellent discipline—even liberation and the rest—do not equal a single moment made into holy company. The wealth found there cannot be matched by alms counted in Kubera's millions. Abandon every action and its course; let my mind fall wholly into holy company. The doha concludes: without holy company, Rāmacaraṇa says, embodied identity is not broken; until that embodiment breaks, inert action keeps everyone bound.
