जागि लखहि गति आदि प्रगटि जिमि अग्नि बेनकारि । घृष्टि करि उठत भसम दोउ होइ सकुल भरि ॥१४॥ सकल खाक करि तासु तेज मिलि महा तेज महँ । जथा सिंधु जल भिन्न होत पर मिलत सिंधु महँ ॥ यथा प्रभा रवि पात्र भग्न रवि महँ मिलि जाइ । यथा राम को बान कार्य करि तून समाइ ॥१५॥ ज्यों मुख मुकुर बिलोकि कोटि करु हाथ न आवै । मुकुर उलटि मुख बिंब यथा मुख माहि समावै ॥ जैसे भौतिक गंध नीर रस रूप अगिनि महँ । परस पवन नभ शब्द जहाँ ते उठत मिलत तहँ ॥१६॥ ज्यों भृंगी मिलि कीट संत मिलि संत होइ इमि । कपट कलश जब भंग तासु नभ गगन मिलत जिमि ॥ सिंहसाल बस भेंड रूप लखि सिंह मिलेउ जिमि । जागि देखि अद्वैत रूप जिय मिलत ईश तिमि ॥१७॥ मन बुधि के शिर राखि चितहि बड़ लखि समझाइ । पुनि बुधि से मन कहत चित्त कहें साखि सुनाइ ॥ सुनहु चित्त बुधि मते जीव नहिं मिलत ईश कहूँ । दास रूप नहि मिलत दास होइ रहते ईश पहूँ ॥१८॥ यथा वज्र मनि कनी फूटि तेहि मिले न भाई । मनि समीप जड़ि जाहि परम शोभा अधिकाई ॥ जलते मोती होंइ बहुरि जल होइ न सोई । यथा दूध ते दही दूध सो बहुरि न होई ॥१९॥
Fresh English translation
Awake, one sees the original course: fire appears when the fire-stick is rubbed, then stick and ash are consumed as the whole blaze rises. Having reduced all to ash, its light joins the Great Light; water distinct from the ocean returns to the ocean; a reflected radiance returns to the sun when its vessel breaks; and Rāma's arrow, its work done, returns to the quiver. A face seen in a mirror cannot be grasped by countless hands; turn the mirror and its image subsides into the face. Likewise smell returns to earth, taste to water, form to fire, touch to wind, and sound to space—the elements merge into their sources. As a caterpillar becomes the wasp, so one who meets a saint becomes saintly; when the fraudulent jar breaks, the space within it joins the sky. Like a sheep raised in a lion's den who recognizes his leonine form and joins the lion, the soul awakens, beholds nonduality, and joins the Lord. Yet consciousness, placing itself above mind and intellect, explains through their own witness: according to intellect, the soul never simply dissolves into God. In the servant-form it does not merge; it remains a servant beside the Lord. A chip broken from a diamond does not fuse back into it, though set beside it the chip gains surpassing beauty. Pearls arise from water yet do not become water again; curd comes from milk yet never reverts to milk.
