Rama's glory rises like an irresistible sun, O King of Birds, and its light fills all three worlds. Many receive joy from that radiance, while the forces that lived by darkness experience its coming as sorrow.
The night of ignorance vanishes first. Owls of sin hide, the night-lotuses of desire and anger close, and the chakora birds of karma, guna, time, and disposition find no moonlight in which to feed. Envy, pride, delusion, and arrogance lose every hiding place.
Within the pond of dharma, the lotuses of knowledge and realization open in many colors. Happiness, contentment, dispassion, and discernment move like chakravaaka birds freed from sorrow across the bright water. The sun does not fight darkness one fragment at a time. By rising, it changes what can flourish. Rama's glory reveals the same law within the heart.
When Rama's sun rises, sin seeks shadow while knowledge unfolds its petals across the pond of dharma.
Read the passage from the Manas
Ever since the glory of Rama arose, O king of birds, like an all-powerful sun, filling all three worlds with its radiance, it brought joy to many and sorrow to others. Those who suffered sorrow, I shall describe. First, the night of ignorance was destroyed. The owls of sin hid themselves on every side, and lust and anger withered like night-blooming lotuses. Various karmas, gunas, time, and ingrained tendencies found no rest anywhere, like chakora birds bereft of moonlight. Envy, pride, delusion, arrogance, and thievery lost all their cunning and found no refuge. In the pond of dharma, knowledge and vijnaana, lotuses of many kinds blossomed forth. Happiness, contentment, vairaagya, and viveka, like countless chakravaaka birds, became free from all sorrow.
