On an auspicious day, at an auspicious hour, beneath a favorable star and lovely ascendant, Jānakī gave birth to two sons and the sages' wives rose in song. (1) Rejoicing, the gods showered flowers as festive instruments sounded, and delight and blessing spread through worlds, forests, and hermitages. (2) By fate Śatrusūdana came and stayed there that very night. Having received that joy, he took leave of the sage and departed at dawn. (3) The wives and daughters of the ascetics served Sītā with devoted hearts, surpassing even mothers, aunts, sisters, and mothers-in-law. (4) The great sage summoned the brahmins and performed every prescribed rite and custom. Everyone said, “Today the fruit of the sage's grace has become complete.” (5) The sage's favor, the happiness of sons, and every other aid brought Sītā comfort; yet Tulsī says the thorn of love for Rāma did not leave her living heart.
