Clever heart of mine, contemplate Raghubīra's beautiful face at dawn; then your eyes of discernment will become pure, fruitful, and cooling. (1) Upon his broad forehead, between the formidable curved brows, a lovely line of tilaka shines. It is as though Love, aiming at the darkness of his hair, has fitted golden arrows to twin emerald bows. (2) His two eyes have lovely lashes, dark pupils, and red and white corners. They are like bees sleeping within lotus buds upon beds made of bandhūka flowers. (3) Dark curling locks scattered over his graceful cheeks shine as though hosts of bees, seeing lotuses within the moon, came in wonder. (4) Golden earrings shine at his ears, hanging toward the roots of both arms. They are like two peacocks that, seeing two serpents hostile to the moon, wish to seize them. (5) His lips are deeply red, his row of teeth excellent, and his smile sweet and captivating—like thunderbolts taking up residence with lightning inside a golden lotus. (6) His chin is graceful, and his beautiful high nose puts a parrot's beak to shame. Tulsīdāsa says Rāma's face, abode of beauty, bestows happiness and quiets the fear of worldly existence. (7)
