People hear that a bridge was built across the ocean. A messenger brought Bharata the full, happy news of the Lord of Kosala's welfare. (1) Virādha, Triśirā, Khara, and Dūṣaṇa were slain; Śūrpaṇakhā's beauty was destroyed. Kabandha was killed, strength-blinded Vāli was felled, and the Ocean of Compassion established Sugrīva in his home. (2) He accepted the refugee Vibhīṣaṇa and swept away Rāvaṇa with his entire lineage, root and branch. Honoring and protecting the assembly of gods, he made renowned his noble title, Liberator of Captives. (3) Hearing each piece of news from one another, the townspeople ran everywhere—delighted like peacocks hearing thunder, or like drowning people who had found the far shore. (4) As they told one another, “The term ends today,” the aerial chariot swiftly approached the city. The Lord descended with his younger brother and followers and bowed his head to the guru and the twice-born. (5) Rāma met each person in the manner suited to them and greatly increased the joy in every heart. He embraced his mothers, Bharata, and Bharata's younger brother—how can their boundless, guileless love be told? (6) That very day the delighted assembly of sages immediately prepared everything for the coronation. Tulsīdāsa reverently sang the virtues of the great king, Lord of Raghu's line. (7)
