She heard that Lakṣmaṇa lay wounded in battle, having challenged and fought a mighty warrior for his Master's cause. (1) Sumitrā grieved for her son, yet rejoiced that he had chosen devotion to Raghupati. One moment her body withered; the next it thrilled and grew fresh. (2) With tears filling the mother's eyes, she said naturally to Hanumān, “Without his brother, Raghunandana is in a cruel predicament, although his bow is his second companion.” (3) “Dear one, go with the monkey,” she said. Śatrughna rose and stood with joined hands, delighted and thrilled, as though a well-formed figure had suddenly been cast by fate. (4) Seeing the condition of mother and younger brother, the Son of the Wind, Bharata, and the others were consumed with remorse. Tulsī says that at that moment the mother explained everything and restored them to composure. (5)
