“Ten-headed king, you were born into a noble line. Beyond that, through service to Śiva, Brahmā’s boon, and your immense strength of arm, you won wide fame in the world. (1) I am the messenger of him who sent Khara, Dūṣaṇa, Triśiras, Kabandha, Vāli, and other enemies to Yama’s realm; I have come to deliver the auspicious message of Hari, whose deeds are pure. (2) Whether knowingly or unknowingly, under the intoxication of wealth, royal pride, and delusion, you abducted her. Return Jānakī, abandon deceit, and worship the compassionate Lord—hear and understand this counsel. (3) Then you, your lineage, and your immovable kingdom will remain secure and none will overthrow them. Otherwise, fool, you will rush like a moth into the fire of Rāma’s glory. (4) Though Aṅgada spoke this policy of highest benefit, none of it pleased Rāvaṇa’s mind. Tulsīdāsa says that hearing the words made his anger blaze as though clarified butter had been poured into fire. (5)
