“Even now, accept my counsel and abandon anger. Beloved, tell me: who has ever prospered by opposing Raghubīra? (1) While still young he killed Tāḍakā and Subāhu, protected the sacrifice, and revealed himself; using the wicked Mārīca as an occasion, he playfully displayed the power of his arrows. (2) He broke Śiva’s hard bow together with the pride in every king’s strength, won Jānakī and thereby conquered the world, and humbled the axe-bearer Paraśurāma. (3) He punished the deceitful crow and then graced him; without effort he slew Virādha. Killing Khara, Dūṣaṇa, Triśiras, and Kabandha, he brought happiness to gods and saints. (4) With a single arrow he killed Vāli, that unfathomable ocean of strength. Tell me, husband: who has offended Rāma and remained well? (5) Conqueror of worlds though you are, you could not cross the line drawn by his younger brother. His extraordinary messenger crossed the sea, laid waste to the city, and burned it. (6) The Vedas and Śeṣa sing him as Ocean of Compassion and fire to the forest of the wicked. Lord, recognize in your heart that the renowned hero and master of Kosala is this very one. (7) Why obstinately become a stain upon the moon of sage Pulastya’s fame? I have searched and considered the world; there is no other means of rescue. (8) Come—place me in front, bring Sītā respectfully, and quickly meet him in peace. Tulsīdāsa says the Lord will hear the word ‘refuge’ and make you fearless.” (9)
