Everything turned out well for Vibhīṣaṇa. The Compassionate One made him fearless even of Time, and the crushing torment of worldly existence departed. (1) Lakṣmaṇa and Hanumān became his friends, Śambhu his teacher, and Rāma, lord of Kosala, his master. One thing had been in his heart, fate made another happen, and Rāma’s grace arranged something greater still. (2) The throne upon which the warrior Rāvaṇa became a storehouse of sin, disgrace, and anguish made Vibhīṣaṇa an ornament of the world, once he gained it and crushed the army of faults. (3) The gods rejoiced, showered flowers, sounded their drums, and sang the virtues of Raghubara—rampart of protecting arms, crest-jewel of generosity, guardian of those who bow, and keeper of a pure vow. (4) The Friend of the Poor made a pauper king; the pride of those counted wealthy was ground away. A bow before Rāma is a mine of immeasurable glory, giving birth to every jewel of auspiciousness. (5) Even today the same good comes to one who abandons pride and seeks Rāma’s refuge. Tulsī raises his arm, takes Śaṅkara as witness, and declares it under oath. (6)
