Had I come bearing my Lord’s command, ten-headed Rāvaṇa, in this very fury I would have crushed the entire demon host together with you. (1) I would have fired the mercury that is Rāvaṇa together with the essences of his warriors and ground them in the mortar of Laṅkā, destroying great houses to prepare a calcined medicine for the lord of heaven. (2) In this vast assembly I have needlessly become an object of shame, though I could accomplish this great work without doubt. Lord of Laṅkā, today the tree of enmity with Raghunātha has spread, flowered, and borne fruit. (3) Time, action, the guardians of the directions, and the entire web of the world rest in that Lord’s palm. Were battle with his enemy to erupt on the enemy’s own ground, both my life and death would be fulfilled. (4) Ten-headed one, I have seen your whole assembly and none here is stronger than I. Tulsī says that, had I received my Master’s command, I would not now endure this shame while weighing an enemy’s strength in my heart. (5)
