Mother Jānakī, hear this true word: Raghunātha suffers intensely at his servant’s pain, for such is the natural disposition of the Treasure of Compassion. (1) The terrible pain born of separation from you has made him forget the majesty of his splendid arrows. Otherwise, what comparison is there between the sun of Raghupati’s shafts and the massed darkness of demons? (2) On one side are we restless tree-dwelling animals—what standing do I possess? On the other is the compact mass of wisdom worshiped by Hari, Śiva, and Brahmā; yet he never forgets the intimate counsel whispered into his ear. (3) When Hari heard the news that you had been seen, his life gained immense support. Remembering Rāma’s virtues, Tulsīdāsa became so absorbed in love that he lost awareness even of his own body. (4)
