The Son of the Wind, foremost among the steadfast and exalted among heroes, saw what the ring had done for Sītā and wept like a child. (1) Hearing the crooked demon’s harsh words, the wound of anger deepened. Yet he restrained himself, remembering in his heart the Lord’s command and Agastya’s counsel. (2) Though intelligence, strength, courage, and valor were all present, he kept them concealed. Everyone says that success depends upon the proper equipment, company, and time. (3) Descending from the tree, he bowed at her feet, hesitant and thoughtful, like a good man who has missed the proper moment and now stands before another good person. (4) He spoke humble words distilled from love, trust, and sound judgment. Hearing him, Sītā fully recognized Hanumān’s goodness. (5) “Goddess, if I merely speak without acting, people will think me insignificant. Tomorrow I shall tell the tale after washing the soot from my face in the river of battle. (6) Nothing is gained by acting prematurely.” Holding joy and sorrow together in Hari’s heart, Tulsī’s servant resolved inwardly to raise a dense tumult throughout Laṅkā. (7)
