हौं रघुबंसमनि को दूत। मातु मानु प्रतीति जानकि! जानि मारुतपूत॥ १ ॥ मैं सुनी बातें असैली, जे कही निसिचर नीच। क्यों न मारौं गाल, बैठो काल-डाढ़नि बीच॥ २ ॥ निदरि अरि, रघुबीर-बल लै जाइँ जौ हठि आज। डरौं आयसु-भंगतें, अरु बिगरिहैं सुरकाज॥ ३ ॥ बाँधि बारिधि, साधि रिपु, दिन चारिमें दोउ बीर। मिलिहिंगे कपि-भालु-दल सँग, जननि! उर धरु धीर॥ ४ ॥ चित्रकूट-कथा, कुसल कहि सीस नायो कीस। सुहृद-सेवक नाथको लखि दई अचल असीस॥ ५ ॥ भये सीतल स्रवन-तन-मन सुने बचन-पियूष। दास तुलसी रही नयननि दरसहीकी भूख॥ ६ ॥
I am the messenger of the jewel of Raghu’s line. Mother Jānakī, trust me, knowing me to be the Son of the Wind. (1) I heard the abusive things spoken by that vile demon. Why should I not strike him down, seated as he is amid the jaws of death? (2) Defying the enemy, I could take you away by force today through Raghubīra’s strength. I refrain for fear of breaking his command and disturbing the gods’ purpose. (3) The two heroes will bridge the ocean, subdue the foe, and within a few days meet you with the armies of monkeys and bears. Mother, hold courage in your heart. (4) The monkey recounted the story of Citrakūṭa, reported their welfare, and bowed his head. Recognizing him as her Lord’s loving servant, she gave him an unfailing blessing. (5) Hearing his nectar-like words cooled her ears, body, and mind; yet servant Tulsī says her eyes remained hungry for the sight of Rāma. (6)
