The compassionate king of Kosala is well with Lakṣmaṇa and all his company. He is virtue’s abode, an ocean of affection, naturally guileless in disposition. (1) Your brother-in-law has neither sleep nor hunger and regrets having left you. Steadfast Raghubīra has not even in a dream the least desire for anything else. (2) Without news of you, and constrained by the season, he understood the proper means. He is acting at the right time; the preparation is taking shape and will bear fruit. (3) He sent monkeys through all ten directions, men without crookedness in their Lord’s work. Recognizing Hanumān’s fitness, he called and honored him. (4) “I give you this token,” he said. “Tell Sītā that we are well. Inspect the fortress, see Jānakī especially, learn the enemy’s movements, and return.” (5) Thus the ring consoled Sītā and revealed the monkey’s commission. Finding the occasion, it bowed and sang the multitude of Tulsī’s Lord’s virtues. (6)
