देखी जानकी जब जाइ। परम धीर समीरसुतके प्रेम उर न समाइ॥ १ ॥ कृस सरीर सुभाय सोभित, लगी उड़ि उड़ि धूलि। मनहु मनसिज मोहनी-मनि गयो भोरे भूलि॥ २ ॥ रटति निसिबासर निरंतर राम राजिवनैन। जात निकट न बिरहिनी-अरि अकनि ताते बैन॥ ३ ॥ नाथके गुनगाथ कहि कपि दई मुँदरी डारि। कथा सुनि उठि लई कर बर, रुचिर नाम निहारि॥ ४ ॥ हृदय हरष-बिषाद अति पति-मुद्रिका पहिचानि। दास तुलसी दसा सो केहि भाँति कहै बखानि?॥ ५ ॥
When the Son of the Wind came and saw Jānakī, even his supremely steadfast heart could not contain its love. (1) Her naturally lovely body had grown thin and dust kept settling upon it, as though the bewildered god of love had forgotten his enchanting jewel. (2) Day and night she ceaselessly repeated the name of lotus-eyed Rāma. Hearing her words, the enemy of separation did not yet approach her. (3) The monkey recounted his Lord’s virtues and dropped the ring before her. Hearing the account, she rose, took it in her hand, and gazed upon its beautiful name. (4) Recognizing her husband’s signet, her heart filled at once with intense joy and grief. How, asks servant Tulsī, could that condition ever be described? (5)
