मेरे जान तात! कछू दिन जीजै। देखिअ आपु सुबन-सेवासुख, मोहि पितुको सुख दीजै॥ १ ॥ दिब्य-देह, इच्छा-जीवन जग बिधि मनाइ माँगि लीजै। हरि-हर-सुजस सुनाइ, दरस दै, लोग कृतारथ कीजै॥ २ ॥ देखि बदन, सुनि बचन-अमिय, तन रामनयन-जल भीजै। बोल्यो बिहग बिहँसि, ‘रघुबर! बलि, कहौं सुभाय, पतीजै’॥ ३ ॥ मेरे मरिबे सम न चारि फल, होंहि तौ, क्यों न कहीजै? तुलसी प्रभु दियो उतरु मौन हीं, परी मानो प्रेम सहीजै॥ ४ ॥
“Dear father, in my judgment you should live for a few more days. Enjoy the happiness of service from this son, and give me the joy of having a father. (1) Win the Creator’s favor and ask for a divine body and life for as long as you desire. Tell the glory of Hari and Hara, grant your sight, and make the people fulfilled.” (2) Seeing the Lord’s face, hearing his nectar-like words, and feeling his body wet with water from Rāma’s eyes, the bird smiled and said: “Raghu’s Lord, I offer myself to you. Believe me; I speak from my very nature. (3) Even the four goals of life cannot equal my death. If they can, why not tell me?” The Lord answered only with silence, says Tulsīdāsa, as though placing his seal upon Jaṭāyu’s love. (4)
