I have shown the Lord great obstinacy. Forgive me, Master, if anguish made me utter some new and false argument. (1) Speaking thus, he repeatedly fell at the Lord’s feet and, thrilled with emotion, took the sandals. ‘I fear my own evil time, which has sown this poisonous vine.’ (2) ‘Master, you have always come and set matters right, but through your servant they have gone wrong.’ His words grew weary swimming the river of affection, as though they had fallen into a terrible whirlpool. (3) At that moment in Citrakūṭa, everyone’s understanding was overcome by grief. Tulsī says that as Rāma and Bharata parted, even the stone there melted with love. (4)
