करत राउ मनमाँ अनुमान। सोक-बिकल, मुख बचन न आवे, बिछुरे कृपानिधान॥ १ ॥ राज देन कहि बोलि नारि-बस मैं जो कह्यो बन जान। आयसु सिर धरि चले हरषि हिय कानन भवन समान॥ २ ॥ ऐसे सुतके बिरह-अवधि लौं जो राखौं यह प्रान। तो मिटि जाइ प्रीतिकी परिमिति, अजस सुनौं निज कान॥ ३ ॥ राम गए अजहूँ हौं जीवत, समुझत हिय अकुलान। तुलसिदास तनु तजि रघुपति हित कियो प्रेम परवान॥ ४ ॥
The king reasons within his heart, distraught by grief and unable to speak after separation from the treasury of compassion. (1) ‘I summoned him to give the kingdom, but under a woman’s sway told him to go to the forest. He placed my command upon his head and departed joyfully, regarding forest and palace alike. (2) If I preserve this life through separation from such a son, love’s measure will be erased and I shall hear my own disgrace. (3) My heart reels to think that Rāma has gone and I still live.’ Tulsīdāsa says he relinquished his body for Raghupati and thereby proved his love. (4)
