This morning is utterly unlike every other morning, mother. At the palace gate I do not hear Vedic praise or the lovely voices of learned singers. (1) My daughters-in-law, radiant with beauty, virtue, and grace, have not come from their husbands’ lovely mansions, placing Sītā before them, to receive my blessing. (2) My Raghubara has not smiled and asked me, ‘Where is Mother Sumitrā?’ Tulsī says it is as though the Creator could not bear to see my supreme happiness. (3)
