Friend, the travelers who passed along this road Are Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, come from Ayodhyā. (1) Sītā is with them, every limb naturally beautiful; Together they shame millions of Ratis, Loves, and Lords of Spring. (2) King Daśaratha and Queen Kauśalyā gave them birth; Through her crooked scheme, Kaikeyī sent them to the forest. (3) Why did the king accept the words of that evil-minded woman? Alas, alas! Adverse fate bewildered the king. (4) Did neither the family preceptor nor any minister counsel him? Taking a bead of glass, he lost a priceless jewel. (5) Fortunate are the people on the road who were able to see them, And, with Tulsī, those who sing the multitude of their virtues. (6)
