Mother, I have seen those enchanters of the heart, worthy of being seen. They are very young, one fair and one dark, lovely and delightful, Travelers with charming eyes and moonlike faces. (1) Lovely crowns of matted hair, decked with flowers, rest upon their heads, And fresh-leaf canopies shine in the same way. The heroes wear the garb of sages and bear bows, quivers, and arrows. They grace the road—but who they are, I cannot discern. (2) Using beauty as the mold and the gold of form, Brahmā cast and fashioned the woman who shines beside them. Lovely drops of exertion gleam upon their radiant bodies. What can I tell you? The sight almost dazzles the eyes. (3) Hearing all her words, Sītā grew weak with affection And looked upon her with yet greater love. Tulsī says it was as though the embodied grace of the Lord turned, Looked joyfully, and drew her heart into itself. (4)
