Friend, look carefully: some exceedingly beautiful travelers are passing. Their sweet forms enchant even Love and are worthy of being seen. Beholding their faces, abodes of beauty, I am captivated. (1) The dark and fair youths steal the hearts of gods and sages. Between the two, a woman shines. It is as though, between cloud and moon, exquisite lightning rests, Having laid aside its own natural restlessness. (2) Hold courage in your heart and make your birth fruitful. Listen, lovely-faced friend; do not grow distraught. Who knows through what merit we have gained this reward for our eyes? That is why I tell you again and again. (3) Having given her friend this good counsel, she herself sank into love And lost all awareness of herself. Tulsī says she remained standing like a figure carved from stone— Who could know where she came from or whose relation she was? (4)
