कहौ सो बिपिन है धौं केतिक दूरि। जहाँ गवन कियो, कुँवर कोसलपति, बूझति सिय पिय पतिहि बिसूरि॥ १ ॥ प्राननाथ परदेस पयादेहि चले सुख सकल तजे तृन तूरि। करौं बयारि, बिलंबिय बिटपतर, झारौं हौं चरन-सरोरुह-धूरि॥ २ ॥ तुलसिदास प्रभु प्रियाबचन सुनि नीरजनयन नीर आए पूरि। कानन कहाँ अबहिं सुनु सुंदरि, रघुपति फिरि चितए हित भूरि॥ ३ ॥
Tell me, how far away is that forest? Grieving, Sītā asks her beloved husband, the prince of Kosala, where he has set out to go. (1) Lord of my life, you journey on foot into a foreign land, having cast every pleasure away like a severed straw. Let me fan you; pause beneath a tree, and I shall brush the dust from your lotus feet. (2) Tulsīdāsa says that on hearing his beloved's words, water brimmed in the Lord's lotus eyes. ‘Listen, lovely one—where is the forest yet?’ Raghupati said, turning to look at her with abundant love.
