Rāma, by what means shall I remain at home? Whom shall I repeatedly gather into my arms and lap and call ‘my child’? (1) My dear one, you used to roam this courtyard with many children beside you. How will my life endure as I remember the many games you played, my son? (2) With these ears I heard your lovely words again and again and sank into love. With those same ears I now hear of your forest-going—who is more unfortunate than I? (3) Raghunandana, each instant without seeing your lotus face passes like an age. If this body remains after the years have passed, dear child, what love could be credited to it? (4) Tulsīdāsa says that seeing his mother distraught, Śrī Hari was overcome by love. His throat choked, his eyes filled with tears, and Murāri repeatedly promised to return soon. (5)
