Please remain, beautiful lord of Raghu. Child, if you are devoted to obeying your father's word, your mother too, dear son, deserves your obedience. (1) The Vedas proclaim this nature of yours, Raghupati: you always bring joy to the holy. Keep the Vedic bounds that are your own; I give myself for you—lay down bow and arrows. (2) The city will fall into a well of grief and the king will die upon hearing that Raghunātha has departed. Fate, producer of separation from Rāma's feet, this blame will now fall upon you. (3) Hearing his mother's words, tears flowed from his eyes—partly, it seemed, the nature assumed with human form. Tulsīdāsa says he thought: ‘If I do not accomplish the gods' work, my coming to earth itself will be a fault.’ (4)
