Listen, Rāma, beloved as my very life. I would sacrifice every Veda-approved word of truth that separates me from your feet. (1) Without effort the king gained the Lord, the fruit of every discipline, yet did not preserve that treasure. Abandoning Hari, he now seeks to be righteous; under a woman's power, the king has lost everything. (2) Like a fool who sees a pretty glass bead and drops the wish-gem from his palm, he did not consider that Rāghava is the moon of the sage-chakoras' eyes and Śiva's very life-treasure. (3) Dear child, although your lord and father, subject to illusion, has forgotten you, his son and treasury of joy, still do not abandon us, Raghupati—friend of the lowly, compassionate one, my child. (4) Hearing these humble words of overwhelming love, the tender-hearted Lord could not bring himself to depart. Tulsīdāsa says he thought: ‘If I remain for my mother's sake, who will remove the gods', Brahmins', and earth's fear?’ (5)
