नृप कर जोरि कह्यो गुर पाहीं। तुम्हरी कृपा असीस, नाथ! मेरी सबै महेस निबाहीं॥ १ ॥ राम होहि जुबराज जियत मेरे, यह लालच मन माहीं। बहुरि मोहिं जियबे-मरिबेकी चित चिंता कछु नाहीं॥ २ ॥ महाराज, भलो काज बिचार्यो, बेगि बिलंब न कीजै। बिधि दाहिनो होइ तौ सब मिलि जनम-लाहु लुटि लीजै॥ ३ ॥ सुनत नगर आनंद बधावन, कैकेयी बिलखानी। तुलसीदास देवमायाबस कठिन कुटिलता ठानी॥ ४ ॥
Joining his hands, the king spoke before his guru: ‘Lord, by your grace and blessing Maheśa has fulfilled all my wishes. (1) One longing remains in my heart: that Rāma become crown prince while I live. After that I shall have no anxiety in my heart over living or dying.’ (2) ‘Great king, you have conceived a good undertaking; act quickly and do not delay. If fate is favorable, let everyone together seize the reward of a lifetime.’ (3) Hearing joyful congratulations sound through the city, Kaikeyī grew distraught. Tulsīdāsa says that, subject to divine illusion, she resolved upon a cruel crooked course. (4)
