With joyful hearts the mothers perform ārati. Again and again they wave gold, garments, and gems; their thrilled bodies blossom with delight. (1) Kauśalyā teaches the brides to bow at the feet of their other seven hundred mothers-in-law as at her own. Those mothers bless them: ‘May your husbands live and your married fortune remain unbroken for ten million years.’ (2) Seeing the beauty of Rāma and Sītā, the young women speak among themselves: ‘Friend, listen—now we truly know that the Maker is supremely skilled.’ (3) Auspicious songs and drums fill city and sky; that joy cannot be told. Long live all the sons of Ayodhyā's lord, the givers of happiness to Tulsīdāsa! (4)
