The mother repeatedly waved blessings over his arms: ‘How did these tender lotus hands break Śambhu's heavy bow? (1) How did you defeat mighty Mārīca and Subāhu, and slay the formidable Tāḍakā? By the sage's grace, fate turned away a grave calamity from my Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa. (2) Taking the dust of his feet and touching it to her eyes, she asked, ‘Dear child, how did you deliver the sage's wife? Tell me—how did you conquer all the kings and wed Videha's princess? (3) Bhṛgupati is the embodiment of unbearable wrath and destroyer of hosts of kings. How did he yield Śārṅga after admitting defeat in his heart, and make such entreaty to you?’ (4) Again and again she surged with joy, beholding all four sons with their brides. Tulsīdāsa says the mother, absorbed in love, performed their ārati. (5)
