Rāma is the groom and Sītā the bride, friend! Their colors are cloud and lightning; from nail to crown their heart-stealing beauty is complete. (1) Seeing them adorned in wedding garments and ornaments, the line of companions stands as if spellbound. This alone is life's and birth's reward, the fruit of the eyes—and today it has truly been gained. (2) Love the cowherd milked the milk of adornment from Beauty the wish-cow and made ambrosial curd. Churning it, he shaped Sītā and Rāma as butter; the beauty of all worlds is merely the leftover whey. (3) Tulsīdāsa says beholding the pair brings joy; their matchless splendor cannot be told. Brahmā fashioned them as the very treasury of beauty, while Rati and Kāma received only the gleanings and wage. (4)
