Raghunātha placed the dust of the sage's feet upon his head. Seeing Rāma's intent and receiving Lakṣmaṇa's command, the Earth made her supporting powers fully alert. (1) Remembering Gaṇeśa, her guru, Gaurī, Hara, and the Brahmins, Sītā worried and grew shy, assuming her naturally modest manner: ‘Friend of the lowly, ocean of compassion, courageous one, ocean of virtue— I feel the assembly's constraint, and my lineage's honor is at stake.’ (2) Seeing the kings' valor, and weighing vow, love, and rule— and especially the great turmoil in Sītā's heart— Rāma circled Pināka to the right; it shrank away in fear, like a great serpent convulsing at the sight of a potent herb. (3) The gods rejoiced and showered flowers again and again. Siddhas and sages said, ‘The omens are good; this is an auspicious hour.’ Upon the broad, beautiful tree of Rāma's arm, Janaka's wish-creeper appeared to have borne fruit. (4) No one saw him stringing, drawing, or even breaking it, yet its terrible sound disrupted Śiva's samādhi. Tulsī says hearing the Lord's lovely deeds brings joy: this single splendid gain removed everyone's losses. (5)
