सोचत जनक पोच पेच परि गई है। जोरि कर कमल निहोरि कहैं कौसिकसों, ‘आयसु भौ रामको सो मेरे दुचितई है॥ १ ॥ बान, जातु-धानपति, भूप दीप सातहूके, लोकप बिलोकत पिनाक भूमि लई है। जोतिलिंग कथा सुनि जाको अंत पाये बिनु आए बिधि हरि हारि सोई हाल भई है॥ २ ॥ आपुही बिचारिए, निहारिए सभाकी गति, बेद-मरजाद मानौं हेतुबाद हई है। इन्हके जितौहैं मन सोभा अधिकानी तन, मुखनको सुखमा सुखद सरसई है॥ ३ ॥ रावरो भरोसो बल, कैं हैं कोउ कियो छल, कैंधौं कुलको प्रभाव, कैंधौं लरिकई है? कन्या, कल कीरति, बिजय बिस्वकी बटोरि कैंधौं करतार इन्हहींको निर्मई है॥ ४ ॥ पनको न मोह, न बिसेष चिंता सीताहूकी, लुनिहैं पै सोई सोई जोई जेहि बई है। रहैं रघुनाथकी निकाई नीकी नीके नाथ, हाथ सों तिहारे करतूति जाकी नई है’॥ ५ ॥ कहि ‘साधु साधु’ गाधि-सुवन सराहे राउ, ‘महाराज! जानि जिय ठीक भली दई है’। हरषे लखन, हरषाने बिलखाने लोग, तुलसी मुदित जाको राजा राम जई है॥ ६ ॥
Janaka thought, ‘A cruel predicament has overtaken me.’ Joining his lotus hands, he entreated Kauśika: ‘Your command to Rāma leaves me divided in mind. (1) Before Bāṇa, the lord of the rākṣasas, the kings of all seven continents, and the guardians of the worlds, Pināka held fast to the earth. As Brahmā and Hari returned defeated, unable to find the end in the tale of the column of light, so has it happened here. (2) Consider it yourself; look at the assembly's condition: it is as though disputation has destroyed the Veda's bounds. Yet these boys' gladness only heightens their bodily splendor, and the beauty of their faces is sweet and joy-giving. (3) Is their strength confidence in you, or are they gods in disguise? Is it their lineage's power, or merely their boyhood? Has the Maker gathered my daughter, spotless fame, and world-wide victory and fashioned them precisely for these two? (4) I am not attached to my vow, nor especially anxious for Sītā: each person will reap only what he himself has sown. Good Lord, let Raghunātha's lovely excellence remain lovely— the deed, ever new, rests in your hands.’ (5) Saying, ‘Well spoken! Well spoken!’ Gādhi's son praised the king: ‘Great king, you have judged truly and chosen very well.’ Lakṣmaṇa rejoiced; the grieving people grew joyful; and Tulsī too is glad, whose victorious king is Rāma.
