बूझत जनक ‘नाथ, ढोटा दोउ काके हैं’? तरुन तमाल चारु चंपक-बरन तनु कौन बड़े भागीके सुकृत परिपाके हैं॥ १ ॥ सुखके निधान पाये, हियके पिधान लाये, ठगके-से लाडू खाये, प्रेम-मधु छाके हैं। स्वारथ-रहित परमारथी कहावत हैं, भे सनेह-बिबस बिदेहता बिबाके हैं॥ २ ॥ सील-सुधाके अगार, सुषमाके पारावार, पावत न पैरि पार पैरि पैरि थाके हैं। लोचन ललकि लागे, मन अति अनुरागे, एक रसरूप चित सकल सभाके हैं॥ ३ ॥ जिय जिय जोरत सगाई राम लखनसों आपने आपने भाय जैसे भाय जाके हैं। प्रीतिको, प्रतीतिको, सुमिरिबेको, सेइबेको, सरनको समरथ तुलसिहु ताके हैं॥ ४ ॥
Janaka asks, ‘Lord, whose are these two sons?’ Their bodies have the colors of a young tamāla and a lovely champak; whose greatly fortunate person's merits have ripened into them? (1) Having found the treasures of happiness, he brought them within his heart and shut them in. Like one who has eaten a trickster's sweetmeats, he is sated with the honey-wine of love. Though he is called selfless and devoted to the supreme good, overcome by affection, he has sold away his state of being Videha. (2) They are abodes of the nectar of virtue and boundless oceans of beauty. He swims and swims until weary, yet cannot reach their farther shore. Eyes cling to them longingly, minds become deeply enamored, and the consciousness of the entire court becomes a single essence of delight. (3) Each heart privately forms a bond with Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa according to whatever relationship each person cherishes. He is worthy of love, trust, remembrance, and service, and mighty to grant refuge; Tulsī too looks toward him. (4)
